Named accountable GP
Every patient at Whitby Group Practice is allocated to a named accountable GP, who has overall responsibility for the care and support they are provided with.
Most of our GPs work part time in the practice and they are paired; working closely with another named GP to provide full appointment availability to their patients.  It means that most patients will have two GPs looking after them even though our medical records allocate you as being registered with only one – we would ask that you consider either doctor to be your GP when booking appointments.
If you are unsure who your named accountable GP or their paired GP is, please ask at Reception.  There are also photos and biographies on our website here.

You do not have to see your named accountable GP, and if you particularly wish you can change to another GP's list.
Booking appointments with your GP
All GP appointments are for 10 minutes.  If your issue is complex or there is more than one matter you’d like to discuss, please ask to book a double appointment.
In order to provide choice to patients you can now pre-book an appointment to see your named GP:

  • Better Access appointments are available on weekday evenings between 6:30pm-8:00pm, or Saturdays between 8:30am-12:00noon. This is not a walk-in service and may be at a different surgery.
  • Please speak to Reception during normal surgery daytime hours to find out when your doctor is doing an evening surgery (this works out at about once every 2-3 weeks).
  • The surgery phone line is not open during extended hours. In an emergency you should contact the out of hours service on 111.
  • There are two walk-in appointment slots per session; however it is, of course, preferable to book as these may already have been allocated by the time you arrive.

When attending for a pre-booked appointment please use the automated arrivals kiosk to check in (please ask staff to show you if you need any help), or report to the reception desk on arrival.
Please consider registering for Patient Online Access - this would allow you to book your own appointments securely online.  Further details here.
Please report any difficulty with making appointments at our Practice either to your GP or our Practice Manager. We rely on your comments to optimise our service to you.
